To reduce or prevent infection at the site of the infant’s navel umbilical cord incision:
- Select and cut a piece of 100% white cotton cloth (t-shirt, sheet, unfinished fabric from the store, etc.)
- Scorch the fabric with an iron.
- Place the scorched fabric onto the navel/cut-cord area.
- Secure the piece with an abdominal band or by gently wrapping the belly with a separate torn cloth.
- Keep dry. Residual clipped end should dry up and fall off within a couple of days. Results may vary.
